As days go by, more details emerged about the tragedy of the Germanwings airliner that was deliberately crashed by co-pilot Andreas Lubitz in France last week.
Now we want to tell you about the captain, of doomed Germanwings flight 9525, Patrick Sondheimer.
Recent reports indicate devastating information about pilot Sondheimer, for instance, he joined Germanwings 11 months ago only to be able to spend more time with his family. According to the TheAustralian, Sondheimer took the job so that the short European flights would not keep him away from his two children. Patrick leaves behind a wife, a six-year-old daughter and a three-year- old son.
Patrick was also much younger than expected, he was only 34-years-old. The narrative describing the last minutes of the flight revealed that Patrick took a bathroom brake encouraged by Lubitz, following his absence Lubitz then locks the cockpit door leaving Patrick locked out.
In the following minutes and as Patrick tries to get back in and realizes something is going on, Sondheimer was heard screaming to Lubitz: “For God’s sake, open the door,’’ loud metallic blows against the door can be picked up, which are believed to have been his efforts to get back inside by using an axe.
The automated alarm signal can be heard saying: “Terrain, Pull up, pull up” And Patrick one mire time pleading Lubitz to “Open the damn door!” as terrified passengers screamed in the background. Only 8-minutes after he leaves his seat, it’s all over.
According to media outlets the husband and father of two previously captained long-haul flights with parent company Lufthansa and another of its subsidiaries, Condor.
Lufthansa confirmed Patrick S joined the company in 2005 and had more than 6,000 hours of flying experience, he was described by colleagues as “one of our best pilots.”
Patrick was also remembered by his grandmother who told reporters his dream was always to be a pilot. His efforts to save the plane have made him a hero.
