Chris Overton
Chris Overton is the proud boyfriend of British actress, Rachel Shenton who not only scooped the Oscar for best live action short film at the 2018 academy awards ceremony, but also made head turns after she gave her Academy Award acceptance speech by using sign language.
Chris’s gorgeous girlfriend has surely come a long way; born December 21, 1986, the English star was perhaps best known for her role on the teen drama, Hollyoaks –where she played Mitzeee Minniver. You may also recognize her from her role as Lily Summers from the ABC Family drama Switched at Birth –which became her American TV debut.
But the 31-year-old actress turned screenwriter isn’t the only talented one, her guy, Chris Overton actually directed her on The Silent Child –for which the couple won the Oscar for best live action short film.
Chris Overton, an actor and filmmaker –is one of three sons born to Andy and Lynne Overton. He and his brothers, Neil and Ste Overton were brought up in Staffordshire. His passion for movie making began in his teens, when at age 13, he got his first digital camera.
Overton who attended the Sylvia Young theatre school in London –runs his own production company, Slick Showreels which he started in his early 20’s. He specializes in producing shorts, music videos and documentaries.
Chris began his career as an actor, like Rachel, he also starred in Hollyoaks as Liam McAllister. In 2014 he starred in the Bafta award winning film, Pride directed by Matthew Warchus.
According to The Silent Child movie website, Chris has been working in the industry for the last 18 years as an actor and has worked with award winning directors such as Mat King, Harry Bradbeer, Stuart Orme, Joel Schumaccher, Oscar Winning director Roman Polanski.
With The Silent Child, he becomes the first ever winner of the Deaf Shorts Showcase Award –which is for films where the representation of Deafness is not the main form of conflict but part of a wider narrative.
