Sandi Jackson
Sandi Jackson is the lovely wife of former U.S. Representative from Illinois, Jesse Jackson Jr. –who represented Illinois’s 2nd congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 1995 until his resignation in 2012.
Sandi Jackson’s hubby is the son of activist and former presidential candidate Jesse Jacksonand, prior to his career in elected office, worked for his father in both the elder Jackson’s 1984 presidential campaign and his social justice, civil rights and political activism organization, Operation PUSH.
Jesse Jackson Jr. was born on March 11, 1965 in Greenville, South Carolina, USA as Jesse Louis Jackson Jr. Before pleading guilty to charges of fraud, conspiracy, making false statements, mail fraud, wire fraud, and criminal forfeiture in 2013; Jackson established a consistent liberal record on both social and fiscal issues. He co-authored books on civil rights and personal finance.
In October 2012, Jackson was investigated for financial improprieties including misuse of campaign funds. Jackson resigned from Congress on November 21, 2012, citing mental and physical health problems, including bipolar disorder, and gastrointestinal problems.
But he didn’t went down alone. With him, wife Sandi also pleaded guilty.
Sandi and Jesse Jackson both pleaded guilty in August 2013 to various schemes relating to the looting of his congressional campaign fund. Husband and wife each went to prison for diverting $750,000 from campaign funds for their personal use between 2005 and 2012.
He was given a 30-month sentence, but with time off for good behavior and completion of a substance-abuse program, he served only 23 months ending in September 2015 to return to Washington, D.C., where the couple own a home in the DuPont Circle neighborhood.
Sandi Jackson served on the Chicago City Council. She is the former South Side 7th Ward alderman.
Sandi Jackson was sentenced in Washington, D.C., in August 2013 on the same day as her husband.
Sandi’s turn to go to prison came after her husband’s sentence completion. She served a one-year sentence which ended in October 2016.
Sandi Jackson represented the 7th Ward on Chicago’s South Side from 2007 until she resigned in 2013 shortly before the couple entered guilty pleas after deals were struck with prosecutors.
Sandi Jackson was born Sandra Lee Stevens on September 14, 1963. She was born in Maine but was raised in Ohio by her single mother and her two siblings.
Sandi Jackson earned a bachelors degree from Bowling Green State University in 1985. She studied law at Georgetown University but later transferred to University of Illinois –where she gained her Juris Doctro in 1992.
When she met her husband in 1998, she was press secretary for United States Congressman Mickey Leland.
They tied the knot while studying law at the University of Illinois. they have been married since June 1, 1991.
Sandi became the mother of the couple’s two children; son Jesse –known as Tree; and daughter Jessica.
Sandi owned her own consulting firm J. Donatella & Associates.
Together Sandi and Jesse Jackson, were once Chicago’s political power couple. Recent reports indicate, after 25-years of marriage, two kids and one stint in jail –they have decided to call it quits.
