We want to talk about Suzanne’s incredible selflessness and spirit of heroism shown during the devastating Monday’s twister occurred in Moore Oklahoma. State officials lowered the death toll to at least 24, down from their estimate late Monday night of nearly 100 fatalities. Although more than 200 were injured, including 70 children.

Suzanne who is a teacher at Briarwood Elementary School in suburban Oklahoma City, was precisely trying to shield her students from Oklahoma’s monster tornado; she said she and another teacher immediately rushed the children under desks and into the corner of the classroom as the twister bore down Monday.

It was the last day of school, and the dozen students in her first-grade special education class were eager to start their summer vacations. Also inside the classroom were Haley’s two young daughters. As the storm intensified, she and the students began praying. The roof blew off and a wall crashed down on their bodies and at some point, the leg of a desk impaled Haley’s right calf.

Surprisingly she only felt a great deal of pressure in her leg and it wasn’t until one of her daughters told her it was her leg told her something was stuck that she knew but kept it together. About 10 minutes after the storm passed, rescue workers arrived to pull the children and teachers from the debris.

Haley who is recovering at the hospital said she’s grateful to be alive, and that the incredible injury she sustained isn’t life-threatening but most of all that her students survived.

“It didn’t hit the bone. It just went through the muscle,”

No doubt an incredible strong spirited mother and professional who gave great example to her young students.
