Abby Mayer: Grooveshark Founder Josh Greenberg’s girlfriend

The co-founder of Grooveshark –the web-based music streaming service owned and operated by Escape Media Group –Josh Greenberg was found dead at age 28.

Reports say it was his girlfriend Abby Meyer who made the discovery. Mayer found Josh dead in his bed in Gainesville, Florida on Sunday, according to The Gainesville Sun.

She told the publication she had returned the home the couple shared after a weekend away and she first thought Greenberg was asleep.

During his short career, Josh was extremely successful; he was just 19 when he and fellow freshmen at the University of Florida, Sam Tarantino co-founded Grooveshark –which grew to have as many as 40 million users and 145 employees in offices in Gainesville and New York City, the Sun reports. Josh later became the company’s chief technology officer.

Outside of Grooveshark, he helped launch a scheduling app for cleaning companies called MaidSuite and assisted in starting the Gainesville Dev Academy, which also teaches computer programming.

According to her Facebook page, 24-year-old Abby grew up in Jupiter, Florida and was living with Josh in Gainesville, FL.

She graduated from Jupiter High in 2009 and attended University of Florida from 2009 –2013 majoring in Art history and also attended Santa Fe College for a degree in nursing.

She lists her mother as Haily Fowler and her father as Ches Mayer, she has one brother, Kevin.

Abby and Josh had been dating since 2013, though is not exactly known how they met. Reports about her boyfriend’s death also mention no evidence of foul play or suicide were found and a toxicology reports is expected in the following months. Earlier this year Grooveshark suffered a blow when a lawsuit claimed the site was operating without licensing its music.
As part of a settlement, the service’s parent company, Escape Media Group, would pay $75 million.
