La’Porsha Renae was born in 1994 in McComb, Mississippi, she made her way into a contestant on the 15th and final season of American Idol, but this wasn’t her first time trying out for the show.
La’Porsha first auditioned for American Idol at the age of 16, but did not receive a golden ticket. She went on to graduate from her Mississippi high school, and at 18, became a married woman.
La’Porsha Renae got married and moved to South Carolina with her husband, who was in the US Air Force. However, marriage turned out to be a traumatic experience for the young woman.
Her husband was abusive, so she decided to leave him, moving to California. She later forgave him and moved back to Mississippi. Unfortunately, the abuse continued, though she was pregnant with their daughter. La’Porsha gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Nayalee Keya.
Following a number of assaults and a near death, chocked incident, La’Porsha realized she had to leave.
Her story arriving to the show has become one of the most emotional we’ve seen on AI. Trying to start over again, La’Porsha grabbed her daughter, and escaped her abusive husband a second time. She and little Nayalee moved to a shelter.
Two months later after seeking refugee at a battered women’s shelter, La’Porsha, Nayale and La’Porsha’s mother drove to audition for American Idol.
She revealed, she faced her ex-husband through the TV screen while singing, ‘No More Drama.’
The young mama has been the one to beat week after week and says now, she is happier than ever because she isn’t running anymore.
On her website, the mother of one states, “The thing I enjoy most about music is that it is such a universal language. I am fortunate to have many opportunities to have such meaningful conversations through song. Intriguing one’s mind, touching one’s heart, and reaching one’s soul with a song of my heart is what I live for.”
La’Porsha is joined by contestants, Trent Harmon and Dalton Rapattoni as the tree final contenders for the title.
