A 27-year-old woman named Starkeema Greenidge is suing MAC cosmetics claiming that she was infected with herpes. She attended a Rihanna concert at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, when she was approached by a M.A.C. representative with lipstick samples.
In the lawsuit, Greenidge claims the rep applied the RiRi Woo red lipstick, promoted by Rihanna, to her upper lip, told her to “press her lips together and spread it around”. But the lipstick tube had been previously applied to the lips of others at the concert, and someone had the virus.
“My whole lip was irritated and hugely swollen,” she told TMZ the day after the concert.
Greenidge is suing M.A.C. Cosmetics, Inc., not the singer, in Manhattan Supreme Court in hopes of forcing the company to be more sanitary in the future. She also said the company should train its employees to use disposable samples or individual swabs to apply the lipstick.
“(MAC) didn’t use a fresh or new lipstick tube, but rather one that had been used for other patrons,” according to the suit.
“This is going to happen over and over again if nothing is done,” said Greenidge.
Starkeema Greenidge is a waitress in New York City. According to MyLife.com, she was born on September 03, 1985. She lived in Brooklyn since 2002 and then she moved to NY in 2005. Greenidge studied in Chelsea High School.
“I wasn’t able to work for two weeks. It cost me a lot of money,” Greenidge told the Daily News on Wednesday.
