Her 80-year-old father has been named by Forbes the richest man in the world, knocking out Bill Gates.
That puts Marta Ortega Perez in a very important position as she is considered, most likely to succeed him at Zara.
Marta’s father, a former store clerk who opened his first Zara store in 1975, holds roughly $70 billion of his $77.8 billion fortune in Inditex shares.
Her father’s self made billionaire story makes him the richest man in Europe and the wealthiest retailer in the world.
He started manufacturing textiles through a small family company in 1963 before cofounding Zara with his ex-wife Rosalía Mera (d. 2013) in 1975. By the mid-1980s, Ortega had expanded throughout Spain.
His empire, today includes Zara, Massimo Dutti and Pull&Bear, he caught the retail establishment by surprise, limiting advertising, expanding aggressively, and controlling much of his own supply chain.
He stepped down as chairman of Inditex in 2011. He has been plowing his spare cash into real estate investments all over the world.
Marta Ortega Perez is the youngest child of Ortega. The billionaire heiress was born in Vigo, Spain on January 10, 1984. The blonde speaks English, French and Spanish.
Aside of being a businesswoman, Ortega Perez is also a former equestrian. Marta who holds a senior position at Zara used to ride competitively.
She was born to Ortega’s second wife, Flora Perez. She has two older siblings from her father’s first marriage. Sister, Sandra Ortega Mera and brother Marcos Ortega Mera.
It is been said that Ortega started grooming Marta to make her lead the clothing and textile business. Currently, she is seated at one of the chief positions and is involved in running of the fashion empire. Accoridng to businessinsider, Marta started at the bottom where she stocked shelves and dealt with customers.
In 2012 she tied the knot to Sergio Alvarez Moya. Sergio was the leading rider in 2013’s Western European World Cup league. The couple have a son named Amancio Ortega Alvarez.
She and her family currently reside in Coruna, Spain.
