Peter Thiel
Peter Thiel is the man of the hour, the 48-year-old became the first openly gay speaker at a Republican convention to address his sexuality in his remarks.
The technology entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist, is a major donor to libertarian causes and made a strong, well put speech, saying things like:
“It’s time to end the era of stupid wars and rebuild our country.”
But you can find the rest of his compelling speech somewhere else, we are here to know more about Peter Thiel, the man.
Peter Thiel was born Peter Andreas Thielhas. Peter was a math genius and a national level chess player in his home country, Germany.
In 1996, Peter founded Thiel Capital Management, a multi strategy fund, which was a pre-cursor to his next venture, PayPal. He is a managing partner at Founders Fund, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm investing in companies building revolutionary technologies. He co-founded PayPal with Max Levchin and Elon Musk, and served as CEO until it was sold to eBay in 2002. Thiel also co-founded Palantir, a computer software and services company specializing in data analysis. Thiel was one of the first outside investors in Facebook, and sits on the company’s board of directors. In 2010, Thiel created the Thiel Fellowship, which awards to 20 people under 20 years old $100,000 to encourage them to pursue innovative ventures.
PayPal cofounder and early Facebook investor Peter Thiel sold most of his 10% stake in the social networking giant following its 2012 IPO, though he still sits on the board. His largest holding is in Palantir, the CIA-backed big data company he cofounded and chairs.
His Thiel Foundation gives young entrepreneurs $100,00 over two years to skip college and pursue their business dreams.
To the people outside of the tech world, Thiel continues to be somewhat of a mystery, according to an interview with the Telegraph, “he lives alone but has a boyfriend.” He has thought about having children, he says, and likes the idea. Adding: “although I think you have to spend enough time to really raise them well. And I’m not sure I could do that.’ His friends are, for the most part, ‘loosely’ in the world of technology, who share his belief in the redemptive power of technology.
His private life remains well self guard.
