71-year-old Robert Durst –a member of the wealthy real state Durst family –who’s had several run-ins with the law for over three decades has been arrested for the murder of three people, including his first wife!
Durst who’s managed to scape several charges in the past, is at the center of an HBO docuseries called “The Jinx” and was caught on tape saying he “kill them all.” He was arrested on Saturday.
Real State broker Debrah Lee Charatan is believed to be still married to Robert Durst. The couple tied the knot in 2000 and even when reports say it was more of a convenience marriage, no divorce proceedings have been found.
Debrah who is very successful in the business, is the daughter of parents who survive the Nazi occupation of Poland in World War II. She and Durst who are described as both stranged from their families tied the knot December 11, 2000 on the 25th floor of a Times Square Office building located at 1500 Broadway.
They moved into 923 Fifth Avenue but less than a year later Durst moved out and never returned thought they remained friendly.
Charatan was the head of a commercial brokerage, Bach Realty in the 80’s, she was featured in magazines as one of 10 Outstanding Young Working Women for 1984. At the time she had been married to first husband Bradley Berger with whom she had one child, son Bennat Charatan Berge (pictured avobe) with whom she founded the BCB Property Management company in 2008.
The victims:
1. Kathleen McCormack
Kathleen McCormack, later known as Kathie Durst married Robert in 1973. She was a dental hygienist and after they were married the couple moved out of the city.
She went missing in early 1982, by that time she and Robert were already living apart.
Her disappearance stayed a mystery and she was declared legally deceased in December 2001.
2. Susan Berman
55-year-old Susan Berman was killed execution style with a nine-millimeter hand gun on Christmas Eve, 2000 in her California home. The next day Durst was arrested in connection to her death. It was said she had information related to Kathleen’s disappearance.
Berman who was an author and journalist was also the daughter of Davie Berman, a Las Vegas mob figure. She and Durst were long time friends. Durst was questioned by police and let go.
3. Morris Black
Morris Black was Durst’s elderly neighbor. Following his tainted name Durst moved to Texas where he is said to have started dressing as a woman to keep a low profile from police investigators.
In 2001, body parts of Mr. Black were found in Galveston Bay, Durst was arrested one more time and released the next day after paying bail.
After he missed his court hearing he became a fugitive and was later caught in Pennsylvania. Following a trial for Morris’s death Durst was acquitted of murder, he was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome.
Could Robert Durst finally pay for all of his crimes?
