Kathy Temperton
Meet Kathy Temperton, she is the loving and caring, wife of Rod Temperton, the British songwriter better known for writing Michael Jackson’s great hit song Thriller. Mr. Temperton was 66 when he died on October 5, 2016 in London following a brief but aggressive battle with cancer.
First thing to remember is that Kathy Temperton’s talented husband began his steps in music as a member of the disco music band Heatwave. Quincy Jones became interested in his talent and without delay recruited him to write three songs for Michael Jackson’s first solo album. The songs were Rock With You, Off the Wall and Burn This Disco Out.
Thriller
He relocated to the US in 1980, and Quincy Jones asked him to collaborate with MJ’s next album Thriller. Temperton wrote Baby Be Mine. The Lady In My Life and Thriller. This is exactly what he said about that song.
I went back to the hotel, wrote two or three hundred titles and came up with Midnight Man. The next morning I woke up and I just pointed out this word. Something in my head just said, ‘This is the title’. You could visualise it at the top of the Billboard charts. You could see the merchandising for this one word, how it jumped off the page as ‘Thriller’
Rod’s other collaborations include Donna Summer’s Love is in Control, Love is just a Breath Away and Livin’ In America; He also wrote songs for Aretha Franklin, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, James Ingram, Mya, Quincy Jones and many more.
Mr. Temperton wrote Miss Celie’s Blues a song he did for Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie for the film The Color Purple. The song was additionally nominated for Best Original Song in 1986.
