Roland St-Pierre is certainly the most proud father of Canadian mixed martial artist and the current UFC’s Welterweight Champion, Georges St-Pierre. Since his son’s last bout it has been reported by several media outlets that Roland might be having serious health problems.
Georges St. Pierre and Johny Hendricks were both given medical suspensions following their UFC welterweight title fight Saturday in Las Vegas.
St. Pierre, who retained his title in a shocking split decision, has been suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission until Jan. 1, 2014 and is not allowed contact until Dec. 17.
It could be a moot point since St. Pierre announced after the fight he would be taking a break from MMA to deal with personal issues, though he declined to say what they were.
But TMZ reported that those issues, apparently, are that his father’s illness and an unplanned pregnancy ere the reasons for his post-fight speech.
St-Pierre’s father is in critical condition and although it is not known what’s the specific cause sources report Roland is dying of an unspecified illness, while it’s also said Roland’s son doesn’t want to have a baby with a woman who is pregnant.
“Georges’ dad is dying and it’s derailed him,”

Roland taught Kyokushin karate to a seven-year-old Georges so he could defend himself against a school bully. He and George’s mother Pauline St-Pierre had at least another child, a daughter, Myriam St-Pierre.
There is not many details about Mr. St-Pierre, the picture above is from his son’s Nov. 18 2012 fight; when St-Pierre defeated Condit in comeback bout to unify UFC welterweight title. At the time his son, brought his parents into the Octagon after the fight and said
“If I’m here tonight, it’s because of them.”
Roland’s son is not a stranger to victories, for several years Georges has been ranked as the #1 welterweight in the world according to Sherdog, and numerous other publications. GSP was named Canadian Athlete of the Year during three consecutive years. Roland lives at 3 Rue Yelle St Isidore QC J0L2A0.
Whatever it’s going on with the champ and his family, we certainly send out the best wishes for him and his loved ones!
