The deadly floods in Colorado have claimed the deaths of at least five people including Wesley Quinlan and Wiyanna Nelson, both 19, who according to CBS; were swept away from friends after abandoning their car in the raging waters in Boulder County.
Both teenager lost their lives as they were trying to get our of a car and into a safe place; unfortunately Wiyanna was dragged by the current first and according to friend Wesley screamed her name and dove into the water after her, the brave teen briefly pulled his girlfriend above water, but the stream was too strong.
Her last tweet was Sept. 5
Wiyanna Nelson was just 19 years old, according to her friend Emily Briggs, who watched in horror as Nelson fell into the the current; Wesley was trying to get everybody out, she remembers him saying
“Wesley just grabbed each of us and looked in our faces and just said, ‘We have to get out of this car”
The rest of the friends including Briggs and Nathan Jennings made it, except for Wesley and Wiyanna. According to her Facebook, the teen couple had been in a relationship since February 2013.
Wesley Quinlan who will be remembered as a hero, worked at grocery shop Safeway. The son of Glenda Gurule Aretxuloeta originally from New Mexico but currently living in Frederick, Colorado. His mother uploaded a picture of his graduation just a few month ago in May. He also had a sister named Liz Gurule.
Wesley’s hometown was The Shire, Louisiana; he graduated from Centaurus High School in Lafayette, Colorado.
The massive flood has swept through several areas in the state and killed at least five including Wesley and his girlfriend. Taken too early for sure. What a terribly sad story. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families of those who lost loved ones.
